Consider this:
The contactee tells us that he/she is in communication with star-nations.
He doesn't give us any kind of concrete evidence, so we must have Faith in her/his Honesty.
We must believe that he is telling us the Truth.
From the contactee angle, he must solve several problems.
Fiorst, he must keep the confidence of his followers. For this, he must give them something new, something that "sounds" well.
Also, not less important is keeping people interested, because if he doesn't, people will become easily bored and eventually will look for some other "Councilor" and/or Contactee.
So, the important thing is to watch levels of boredom in the group.
If the "Wise Guide" or Cult Leader doesn't find something new, something motivational, the sect will dissolve.
More and more believers will look for something else, something less boring.
This is how things work in the world or Fantasists, Show-men, or just Charlatans.
